Mentee Advocacy Coordinator

The Mentee Advocacy Coordinator(MAC) is passionate about helping individuals involved in the Hancock County criminal justice system, often navigating challenges related to mental health and substance use disorders. This person works directly with mentees to help them establish realistic goals, connect to local resources, and progress on their recovery journey toward a new life. The MAC ensures mentees receive consistent, goal-focused, and supportive engagement. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and, in their absence, to the Board President and/or Executive Committee. 


General Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary point of contact for all mentees.

Conduct intake interviews with new mentees, gather personal and background information.

Document and track each mentee’s goals, needs, successes, and challenges.

Attend jail visits, court appearances, and other relevant appointments to support mentees.

Maintain confidential records and files for each mentee.

Schedule and track all required drug screenings for mentees.

Connect mentees with community resources for housing, employment, health care, and other needs.

Input all mentee-related data into the charity tracker and other relevant databases.

Respond promptly to mentee requests and needs.

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.


Professional Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree or higher preferred.

Experience in social work, counseling, or criminal justice preferred.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and database entry systems.

Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Familiarity with Hancock County resources.

Ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse mentee population.

Must pass a criminal background check and drug test. Reliable transportation required.
