SUPERVISOR: Board of Directors
FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full-Time
LOCATION: Findlay, OH
DIRECT REPORT: Visitor Experience Manager (VEM)
The Children’s Museum of Findlay, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has been inspiring children, connecting families, and building community through exploration, exhibits, programming, and play since we opened our doors in July 2014. We are a museum just for kids! Our hands-on exhibits help children aged birth to ten years old learn all about science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through a variety of activities tailored just for their learning experience.
The Executive Director (ED) has overall responsibility for fundraising, staff supervision, planning, financial management, program management, marketing, and community relations for the Children’s Museum of Findlay (CMF). The Executive Director will work closely with the Board to develop and implement the strategic plan, establish policies, and provide leadership and support for the staff and volunteers. Key responsibilities include overseeing and managing all aspects of the Museum’s operations, exhibits, and education programming; driving all aspects of CMF’s fundraising; being CMF’s face to the community; establishing and nurturing key collaborations with local partners; and developing and executing a long-term strategic plan for the Museum.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are intended to illustrate the general nature and level of work expected for this position. The Executive Director may be asked to perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the museum.
- Oversee operations and budget to ensure financial integrity, growth, and stability of the organization
- Develop an annual budget and deliver results against the budget
- Manage relationship with 3rd party accounting partner & bookkeeper
- Prepare and actively focus the Board of Directors on key organizational issues as part of Board and committee meetings
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and execute strategic plans
- Oversee Visitor Experience Manager
- Provide leadership in program development, staff organization, exhibit design and planning, facilities, and programming
Represent the Children’s Museum of Findlay in the Community
● Manage ongoing strategic partnerships
● Develop relationships with new partners with the help of the Board of Directors
● Represent the Museum in community organizations/events
● Manage relationship with current lessor
● Oversee all marketing initiatives to promote the museum to the community
Lead fundraising efforts for the Museum
● Oversee and secure exhibit sponsorships
● Coordinate strategy on the museum's annual fundraising event and any other fundraising strategies with the Board taking lead on event sponsorships
● Lead annual operating fundraising
● Seek, write, and report for grant opportunities
● Actively participate in fundraising committee activities
● Build prospective donor lists together with the Board (individual, foundation, corporate, etc.)
● Develop cultivation strategies for prospective donors
Other Responsibilities
● Conduct annual performance evaluations with direct reports
● Recruit and interview potential new Board members (with Board Governance & Executive Committees)
● Network with other non-profit executive directors in the community
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Experience in a leadership role. Non-profit experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in grant writing, fundraising, and donor cultivation.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and handle multiple tasks.
- Strategic thinker who can transform vision and ideas into concrete and high-impact programs.
- Proven experience in leading, developing, and empowering teams.
- Exemplary verbal, written communication, and project management skills, and the ability to work with the media.
- Flexible and passionate about working with youth in a museum setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a Board of Directors.
- Knowledge of museum education, operations, or exhibit development.
- Background in marketing or public relations is a plus.
- Experience in grant writing.
- Experience in formal education settings and/or work directly related to child development, education, or family engagement.
Working Conditions & Hours:
- This is a full-time, exempt position requiring a standard work week of 40 hours.
- Flexibility in hours is required, as some evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be necessary to support programs, events, and museum operations.
- The role is primarily on-site, with occasional off-site meetings and community engagements.
- Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) and physical activity may be required in support of events or exhibit setup.
