Job Summary: 

This position is responsible for aligning with the company’s safety program.  They will also lead and direct the safety function of the McComb, OH plant and provide recommendations regarding safety initiatives and programs.   This position is responsible for complying with all safety, health and environmental regulations which will support the strategic business plan of the company.

Job Duties:

  • Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Work with local management to provide information regarding plant safety status, initiatives, identification of safety needs, and effective program/process follow through.
  • Coordinate and provide safety training per Federal, State, and Company standards.
  • Manage/Coordinate workers compensation cases and ensure active case management in assigned buildings.
  • Adhere to the local safety budget and justify any variances.
  • Analyze safety programs in place and determine applicability, measures for success or improvements necessary.
  • Conduct safety audits of assigned buildings.
  • Create AIL with follow through of assignments.
  • Conduct Safety Team meetings
  • In the event of a Compliance Audit, notify appropriate personnel; taking the lead, if necessary, in managing the same, from a company perspective.
  • Enhance, develop, implement, maintain and audit health, safety and security policies, programs and systems.
  • Collect, analyze, provide corrective action and maintain data essential for effective safety and security programs.
  • Monitor employee compliance of safety and security policies.
  • Correlate, evaluate, review and have primary responsibility for the timely communication and appropriate actions, as stipulated by the Safety and security policies and programs.
  • Perform periodic health, safety and security audits and maintain records multiple facilities, evaluating engineering controls, administrative controls, and / or personal protective equipment.
  • Lead efforts to continuously develop and improve the plant I AM Culture, safety initiatives and enhance safety performance.
  • Receive, review and update safety log to capture all incident daily, investigate incidents, review and distribute safety communications, respond to serious incidents as they occur.
  • Participate and provide analysis in incident investigations, both power vehicle and other on the job inquiries and illnesses
  • Develop and maintain health, safety and security training materials.
  • Coordinate and train employees on various Safety programs and systems including regulatory requirements, emergency response, compliance training, and all aspects of the site's safety programs; including New Hires.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of training, inspections, audits, and required regulatory documentation.
  • Maintain an understanding of current applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure appropriate local, state and federal regulatory filings are completed and submitted as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA standards such as; lockout-tagout, hazard communication, hearing conservation, emergency action plan, fire prevention/protection, machinery and machine guarding, and hazardous materials and provide regulatory advice / recommendations as needed.
  • Serve as Site Security Champion.
  • Review of all Power Vehicle program components including; inspections. Coordinate power vehicle certification classes and annual recertification.
  • Coordinate and schedule employees for annual audiogram.
  • Maintain and inspect eyewash/shower stations and fire extinguisher to ensure full compliance.
  • Coordinate participation in safety events, reports, initiatives and awards.
  • Coordinate and participate in required audits requested by customers and other regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Competencies & Knowledge:
Knowledge of: 

  • Knowledge of Federal and State OSHA, and various state regulations.  Must have knowledge of workers compensation law. 
  • Some Environmental experience helpful.

Skilled in: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communicational skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be a leader and a manager; organized and flexible and, must be computer literate.

Ability to: 

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Successfully multi-task
  • Ensure collaborative relationships with industry, trade, other associations, regulatory agencies and Hearthside staff.

Proficiency in:   MS Office Suite, Excel, and Power Point (SAP a plus)

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily done in an office setting.
  • Infrequent production environment exposure which includes noise, dust, moving machinery, fork lifts, and fluctuations in temperature.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting at a work station for extended periods of time
  • Stand, walk, climb stairs on an infrequent basis
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds on an infrequent basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Safety or Human Resources or combination of education and practical experience.
  • Bilingual-Spanish/English is required for the role.
  • 3-5 years related experience and thorough knowledge of both State and Federal safety, health and environmental regulations in a similar environment
